Khanna: The local municipal authorities have challaned six shops and some houses for indulging in wastage of water. Confirming this, Amarjit, an official of Municipal Committee, Khanna, said the first timer violator was being fined at Rs 2,000. A person indulging into violation for the next time was being fined at Rs 5,000. Daily Post witnessed a water tanker giving water to the grass, planted on National Highway at Khanna. While some residents were complaining that the local body challaned them in the name of wastage, Gurdeep a resident of Khanna alleged that the local body is working on pick and choose policy.
Gurdeep further said that it is clearly wastage of water. Moreover, he claimed that if ‘Save the water’ is need of hour than it becomes the duty of the authorities that they should announce or awakened the masses first on this. When Amarjit, the official of Municipal Commitee, Khanna was contacted in this regard he confirmed that they challaned half a dozen shops and houses after found allegedly wastage of water in their premises. He added that the tabs of all the concerned establishments found open and due to thus a huge quantity of water was wasting.
Amarjit further claimed that after found guilty for wastage of water they fined Rs 1,000 on first time while Rs 2,000 on second time and Rs 5,000 or more shall be charged for those after found repeated violation. He claimed that according to the issue of giving water to the grass along both sides of national highway concerned it is the duty of National Highway of India and they have no concern with it. When Amit Sinha, project head of SOMA, was contacted in this regard he claimed that watering to grass planted along on both sides of national highway comes under Maintenance Project so they are not violation of any norms. And above all any communication regarding the use of water is yet to get by any higher authority of them.
