Lambi (Badal): After the state chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh warned the police officials of dire consequences if caught on wring foot during the war he has waged against drugs, police officials have started swearing in the name of God to perform their duties with utmost care and integrity.
One such scene was witnessed at Lambi police station on Saturday, where the SHO Buta Singh administered an oath to the whole of his subordinate staff to work against the drug mafia with full zeal.
As the police in recent times were much defamed for some of the cops found hand-in-glove with drug peddlers, the head of the police station made all of them take the pledge that neither would they spare such anti-social elements nor would they become a part of any such “objectionable” activity.
The SHO also made all cops swear in that not only they would take severe action against the drug peddlers but also ensure that their colleagues were also putting up equally strong face and take action against the mafia without any fear.
The whole oath was read in Punjabi by the SHO himself which his subordinates affirmed responding in the same tempo.
On being asked about the gesture, SHO Buta Singh said that he was not directed from the headquarters but he wanted to experiment it to curb the menace.
It is pertinent that while seeking votes Captain Amarinder Singh had promised to clear the drugs from state in four weeks and reposing faith in his words, people votes for him and his party. After assuming the charge as Chief Minister Amarinder Singh recently held a meeting with all senior police officials where the district heads (SSPs) were also called.
Amarinder Singh, during the meeting, had directed the officials to lead from the front and carry out raids under their personal supervision, with a message loud and clear that they would have to eliminate the drug and mining mafias within the next four weeks.
All Police Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officers and SHOs would be held directly accountable for supply and sale of drugs in their jurisdiction, he had added.
On the parallel, taking his war against the drugs to grass root level his party MLAs and others leaders have also started going from village to village telling people that would not be able to help any of the persons if found carrying drugs.
