Last minute revolt, congress denies ticket to councilor Vipan Kumar
Jalandhar(Kusum Arora) – Congress had to face revolt on the day of filing nomination papers on Wednesday after sitting councilor from ward number 53 Vipan Kumar was denied ticket at the last minute. Councilor Vipan Kumar staged a protest outside Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh’s house and blamed the MP, local MLAs namely Sushil Rinku, Rajinder Beri and Pargat Singh of refusing him the ticket. The councilor along with his supporters sat on strike and protest outside MP’s house.The councilor, who had filed nomination paper from ward number 32 (reserved) but all of sudden he was denied the ticket, leading to protest by his supporters. The congress has now fielded Sucha Singh from this ward. Vipan Kumar has earlier served as a councilor from ward number 53, which was turned into ward number 32 after delimitation of wards.A disgruntled Vipan Kumar said that all local MLAs from the urban segments namely Jalandhar Cantonment, Jalandhar West and Jalandhar Central came to him for support during the Assembly Elections 2017. “Now, when they became MLAs, they turned a blind eye towards me. This is gross injustice with a person, who has served the voters of his constituency as an independent candidate too”, he said. He said that it was Jalandhar West MLA Sushil Rinku, who brought him to congress fold during the assembly election. “Chaudhary Santokh and Sushil Rinku should explain that why did they deny him ticket at the last moment. My supporters and voters have been left dejected”, he added.Vipan Kumar also mentioned that he spent his life in rented accommodations and was never involved in corrupt practices. “I am known for my development works in my ward. Not only, I have been present 24X7 for my voters, I have been publicizing various Punjab government and Centre government schemes by commuting on a rickshaw myself. But, the congress preferred to field Sucha Singh, who has got money power”, he maintained.Though Vipan Kumar did not divulge, if he would contest as an independent candidate but he said that he would continue protest against Chaudhary Santokh outside his house. Meanwhile, a large number of women had sat on protest outside MP’s house.
