Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today alleged that the Akali-BJP government in Punjab has “failed” to provide security to people of the state and asked the government to protect them from the “atrocities” of Akali workers.
AAP Punjab Co-Incharge Jarnail Singh and Legal Wing Head Himmat Singh Shergill said during a media interaction that the reports related to crime in the newspapers shows the real situation in Punjab.
Jarnail alleged that rule of lawlessness prevailed in Punjab and Akali workers are ‘killing” people without any fear.
“The police rather than taking action against the culprits are shielding them,” he alleged.
He also warned state police officials to stop “working as the personal army” of Akalis.
Giving ultimatum to the Moga police to arrest the murderers of AAP worker Jagroop Singh of Bhindar Kalan, Jarnail said that if the police fails to take any action against the culprits, AAP will Gherao the police station tomorrow.
He said that on the birthday of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, AAP will start ‘Inssaf March’ throughout Punjab from Wednesday onwards.
Quoting the incident of Kishangarh near Jalandhar, where a trader along with his family committed suicide, Jarnail said the victim was threatened that the money lender will abduct his daughter if he failed to pay the already paid loan.
He alleged that the people of state have lost faith in the police and civil officials.
Jarnail alleged that the failure of police to arrest the culprits of sacrilege led to further similar incidents of sacrilege in the state.
“Had the police arrested those responsible for sacrilege, nobody would have dared to commit the crime again,” he said.
Targeting Badal family, Jarnail alleged the people of Punjab no more trust the fake promises Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal.
To a query on probe against sacked party’s convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Jarnail said there was no need to continue probe against Chhotepur as he was forming another political party.
He further said there was also no need to make video clip public which allegedly showed Chhotepur accepting money.
To another question on suspended AAP MP Dharamvira Gandhi, Jarnail said if he thinks AAP is not working in the interest of Punjab, then he can resign as MP and contest assembly polls.
He said that the party was considering further action against Gandhi for his alleged anti-party activities.
The AAP leaders claimed intellectuals of Sarva Dharma Sadbhavna Manch has extended support to the party.
Under the leadership of Harpal Singh Pannu and Barinderbir Singh Nanda, a delegation of Manch today met the State Convener of AAP Gurpreet Singh Waraich (Ghuggi), MP Bhagwant Mann and In-charge of AAP’s affairs in Punjab Sanjay Singh to discuss the burning issues of Punjab and in the larger of interest of Punjab extended unconditional support to AAP.
The delegation comprises Pannu, Barinderbir Singh Nanda, Ravinder Kaur Sidhu (Kiddu), Gurjit Singh Khalsa, Mohammed Habib, Dr Arvinder Rituraj, Onkar Singh, Deepshika, Mohammed Rafi, Hari Singh Patiala, Sukhdev Singh, Hardyal Shikva, Amrit Singh Nabha, Maninder Singh Kohli, Gurcharan Singh Nabha and Mahitab Inder Singh Sidhu, a statement said.
On the occasion Pannu and Barindebir Singh Nanda said that the Manch is of the opinion that AAP does not indulge in politics of religion and respects all religions.
They said that under the prevailing political situation, BJP and Congress are two national political parties, which are “polarising” the people on the basis of religion to take political mileage, thus the Manch has decided to extend unconditional support to AAP.
They said that earlier they met National Convener of AAP and Delhi Chief Minister Arvinder Kejriwal to discuss issues pertaining to Punjab. PTI
