Jalandhar:Following a Supreme Court order leading to the closure of 55 liquor vends on National Highways (NH) and the state highways, the district administration fetched Rs 341.09 crore revenue from liquor vends auction held for the current fiscal year on Wednesday.This year witnessed a downfall of over Rs 34 crore in the total revenue collected from liquor vends auction in the district, which was held at Red Cross Bhawan in Jalandhar.
As many as 13 groups applied for auction out of which the maximum liquor vends were allotted to Jasdeep Kaur Chadha. The Chadha group fetched Rs 37,37,51,912 from Bus stand zone, Rs 37,75,01,79 from Maqsudan Zone, Cantt Zone fetched Rs 38,50,01,675 and Railway Station Zone Rs 38,25,65,449) under Jalandhar-1.
D C Varinder Kumar Sharma conducted the auction of liquor vends in the presence of a strong lobby of applicants and their supporters.
“For the fiscal year 2017-18, as many as 628 liquor vends were allotted against the 683 during 2016-17. The number of liquor vends had gone down in the wake of Supreme Court orders”, he said.
