The heritage site in the state of neglect is the oldest Christ Church at fountain check is the heritage for Ludhianvis. But it has not been well maintained as the way it should have been by concerned authorities.The beautiful Architectural structure of the Christ Church is in poor state of affairs. It gets open only in early morning and evening hours of day. Just at Christmas festival it remains open for worshipper’s whole day. But very few people in the city know about this Church as its building hides behind ‘Fountain Chowk Chaupati’ and parking at main entrance.Christ Church, which dates back to 1830s, adjacent to the Fountain Chowk, it is probably the oldest church in Punjab. However, it was entangled in several legal disputes relating to attempts to sell off the property due to which even its care taker are not able to spend any kind of amount on the maintenance of the Christ Church.The grubby look of the church compound is a testimony to how the structure has fallen on bad days. The foundation stone of the church, affiliated to the Church of England, was laid by fifth Bishop of Calcutta, Daniel Wilson, was it consecrated in 1840. In its early days, elite officers of British army and civil service worshiped here. This historic church is poorly maintained due to lack of funds and surrounded by unauthorized structures, its intricately vaulted ceiling still holds the charm.If one talks about the history of Church and its priest, SSP’s home in Ludhiana was once priest’s residence. At one time the church had two parks, one of which has since been auctioned and converted into the market. There is no longer a proper entrance to church that remains in a decrepit state as told in news reports earlier.The care taker of the Church is trying their best to maintain the Church. But they also need Punjab Government and tourism support to maintain it well. As this Church is in the hub of the city, but even than maximum people in the city are not aware about the existence of oldest Church in Ludhiana. But the tourism department has just one plea all the time that they don’t get funds from Punjab Government to maintain the heritage sites in Ludhiana city to attract the tourists from everywhere in India.
