Ludhiana: Illegal hoarding deface city walls
Ludhiana – As the Municipal Corporation elections are likely to be held in the first week of February, an umpteen number of political posters are on the walls in city the that have made the face of Ludhiana city ugly. Municipal Corporation has turned a blind eye towards these violations as political posters of ruling party candidates and other party candidates are flooded in different pockets of the city area. In some areas residents were forced to remove posters from their walls and spend their own money to repaint them. Residents want parties to ensure that these posters and hoardings are removed at the earliest. The areas where hoarding posters and flexes were installed including Tajpur Road Gill Road, Ghumar Mandi, Punjab Mata Nagar Model Town Dugri Road Urban Estate Haibowal, Industrial Area Dhandari and Jawahar Nagar among others. Besides, defacement in villages is rampant as well. A resident of Janata Nagar Sukhminder Singh said Posters were pasted on the walls in our area without permission from us. “I appeal to parties to come forward and remove these illegal posters, hoardings and banners. The MC should also act immediately in this regard,” said resident Gaganpreet Singh. He added unauthorised posters of the Aam Aadmi Party, the Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal, the Bharatiya Janata Party and others are defacing public and private property, but no action was being taken in this regard by these parties. Residents are helpless. Parties make tall promises of development but they have taken no initiative to get their unauthorised advertisements removed. Police must file FIRS against violators he said. According to sources many of the posters were removed and large numbers of posters are still need to be removed. However officers are not directing to remove as there is too much political pressure.Despite repeated attempts, concerned authorities were not available for comments.
