Ludhiana MC elections to be held in mid January. The Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected the petition of conducting Municipal Corporation (MC) elections of Ludhiana along with three other cities on December 17. Now the government has planned to conduct elections in mid January and the ward delimitation notification will be issued Before December 10. A petition was filed in Punjab and Haryana High court for conducting MC elections of all four cities of state simultaneously.The government argued that the process of ward delimitation is yet to be completed and MC elections in Ludhiana are not possible on December 17. The Court has asked the government to complete the process of ward delimitation and notify elections within 45 days. Meanwhile MLA Simarjit Singh Bains has decided to move Supreme court against the MC elections in January. Sources in government said that the local bodies department will issue notification of ward delimitation on December 7 and the elections will be held in mid January. Earlier, the government has planned elections on January 6. The elections in Ludhiana were delayed after Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLAs Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains raised objections on ward delimitation draft. The Congress MLAs Rakesh Pandey and Bharat Bhushan Ashu developed differences during the meeting of ward delimitation over the appointment of Chairman of ward delimitation Committee few days ago. LIP MLAs Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains also raised objections and wanted to increase the wards in their constituencies according to population. As the ward delimitation was hanging, the government has decided to conduct the elections in January. This time the wards were increased to 95 from 75. The ward number 1, 3, 5 and odd number till 95 will be reserved for women and rest of the wards was open for males. Out of 95, 14 wards will be reserved for Schedule caste (SC) and two wards were reserved for Backward class (BC).
