The Ludhiana police have filed a charge-sheet in the Court of Judicial Magistrate of First Class Ankit Airia against six persons accused in the South city rape case in which a girl was waylaid by the gang and physically assaulted. The investigation in the case was conducted by an SIT headed by V.Neeraja, IG, Mohali zone. In the horrendous incident a 20 years old college girl was gang-raped after being abducted on the South City Isewal Road adjoining Sidhwan Canal on February 10, 2019. Dakha Station House Office Inspector Jagdish Kumar said all accused would be produced in the court on April 6.
During the investigation, it was found that many mebers of the gang, including its kingpin Jagrup Singh, were involved in multiple cases of rape and looting in the city which had been reported to the police at all. In his interrogation Jagrup reportedly confessed to have been involved in more than a dozen such cases. The victim had told the police that she and her friend were going in a car from South City area of Ludhiana city towards Issewal village when their car was attacked with bricks by two men on a motorcycle.
The attackers, who were joined in by three others, then got into the car and beat up the man (male friend) and took the car to a farmhouse near Jagraon. They called up a friend of the man from his mobile phone and demanded a ransom of Rs two lakh. The friend approached the police following the call but the police did not take immediate action. The couple was allegedly beaten up at the farmhouse and the woman was gang-raped by six persons. She alleged that her attackers called seven other men who also sexually assaulted her. During the incident DIG Ludhiana Range Ranbir Singh Khattra reached the spot after confirming the incident and registered the case against the accused.
