Amritsar airport also known as Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport has turned out to be one of the busiest international airports across the country where the number of passengers has also risen considerably during the past sometime.
The number of domestic passengers from the airport increased by 83.5 per cent in December, 2017 compared to December 2016, clinched the first place among busiest international airports in the country while the Madurai Airport bagged the second place with an increase of 77.6 percent.
While giving the information, the Secretary-cum-Aviation Analyst of Overseas Affairs of Amritsar Vikas Manch, Samip Singh Gumtala said that the number of domestic passengers in December 2016 was 88,790 and it increased to 1,62,932 in December 2017. Similarly, the total number of international passengers was 56,284 while in December 2016 it was 51,945, which is 8.4 percent more than previous year.
From the recent figures of Airport Authorities of India, this has been revealed that the total number of passengers in December 2017 was 2,19,216, which increased to 2,13,615 in November 2017.
The number of passengers has crossed 20.6 lakh for the first time, which is 37.4 per cent more than the number of 15 lakh in 2016.
