Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): Muslims and Christians prefer to take loan among the minority community across the State. If compare to last year, the growth of advances to Christians is to 73.72 per cent and Muslim is 49.96 per cent till March 2018. Data provided the banks that State Bank of India is on the top to provide maximum 110 crore loans to minority community across the Punjab. Interestingly, according to cencus-2011, Muslims has been registered in population more than 5.35 lacs in Punjab, Christians more than 3.38 lacs and Jains are only 45050 in the state.Muslims have been given loan more than Rs. 886 crore upto March 2018, while it was Rs.590.99 crore in last year till March 2017. Christians have been given loans 246.20 crore, while it was Rs 141.77 crore in the previous financial year. Although the Jains have decreased to take loans by minus 12.61 percent, but their amount is maximum. They have took the loan Rs 1130.15 crore till March 2018. Other hand banks have shown less interest in giving loans to women. In the previous financial year 2016-17, Rs 24120 crore were given as advances to women beneficiaries, but in 2017-18, only Rs 18303 crore has been given. Same happened in the matter of SC, there is 47.88 percent decrease to grant loan to SC beneficiaries. There is decrease recorded in granting loan for education. The growth of advances to weaker section has been registered only 2.44 percent as compared to last year which was 12.89 per cent.
