Amritsar – BJP Member of Parliament Dr Subramanian Swamy on Sunday termed the Operation Blue Star as an ‘unjustified act’ which was carried out in June 1984 during the Congress regime. He said the decision was wrong. Talking to media persons here, Dr Swamy said: “Operation Blue Star carried out by the Indian Army in the Golden Temple was a mischievous blunder. It should not have happened. It was Harkrishan Surjit and Soviet Union which organised the Operation Blue Star. Here, I wouldn’t hesitate to say that Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala was my friend and I used to visit him when he was alive but he was not a terrorist. He never raised the demand for Khalisthan.” Adding further he said: “When I used to meet Bhindrawalla who always said to me I never ask anybody to give Khalisthan but if they people wanted to give us, then we have no problem. So let it be. I never considered Bhindranwalla as a terrorist. In the past I was deeply connected with Punjab and still I have sympathy with the state.” The Operation Blue Star was ordered by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to flush out the hiding militants whereupon militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwalla was shot dead along with others. During army action the highest Sikh temporal seat Akal Takhat was razed to the ground. Talking about the anti-Sikh riots which occurred in November 1984, he said: “It was not riot but genocide.”Talking about the GST on the purchase of cooking materials purchased for the community kitchen of the Golden Temple, he said: “It should be removed. It shouldn’t have been brought in practice at first.” On being asked his comments over the incidents of rape, he said: “Capital punishment is not enough as rapists deserve surgery so that in the future he cannot repeat the act.” Talking about 2019 Parliament elections he said that his party would win elections, since the corrupt people are being sent to the jail and people of the nation are happy with the NDA government at the Centre.
