Punjab BJP hails PM’s move for simultaneous Lok Sabha, state assembly polls
Amritsar – Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state executive member Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina on Monday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed initiative of holding simultaneous elections to Parliament and state assemblies. He said it is a revolutionary idea which will give boost to ‘good governance’ and save state exchequer of unnecessary financial burden.
As the Election Commission of India has also given the go-ahead to this proposal, Chhina, who recently met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and discussed the matter in detail, said the government machinery will utilise their services for governances as the frequent polls are diverting their attention away from normal government functioning. He said after Independence, polls to the Lok Sabha and most of the state assemblies used to be held simultaneously.
“But this changed dramatically later and it has become now a burden on the state exchequer and government machinery which remains busy in electioneering and have little time for governance,” he said. He said no PM or the leader of national repute ever thought about this menace but visionary PM Modi has taken this initiative now. He said a lot of money would be saved if elections are held just once in five years and it will also check the flow of the black money thrust into the as election expenditure. The holding an election costs crores of rupees to the state exchequer and by holding elections frequently put great deal of ordeal to the finance of the state, he said.
