After staying away from power for a decade in Punjab, Congress is making every move in a calculated manner as it does not want to leave any loose threads on its part.Highly placed sources in Congress party while talking to this Correspondent in connection with party’s preparedness for Punjab assembly elections and its poll strategy told that still nothing has been decided even as party have received applications from ticket aspirants.
Our sources confirmed that so far no formula except “One Family One Ticket” has been finalised by party, but indicated that party’s vice president Rahul Gandhi along with his sister Priyanka Vadra is going to play a major role in deciding poll strategy for Punjab.
Sources added that party is planning to make major shift in its policy in deciding its candidates this time. It want’s to play Hindu card this time and will give tickets to Hindu candidates on most of urban seat’s. It May be mentioned here that during previous assembly elections same poll plank was used by ruling Shiromani Akali Dal. It seems that now Congress is trying to follow same pattern to increase its quota of winning candidates.
Sources further added Rahul Gandhi is planning to give around 40 seats to youth leaders as he want them to provide new leadership. As Congress has a bunch of senior leaders Rahul Gandhi is trying to plug age gap.Congress is going to keep elections youth centric as over 60 per cent of youngsters are going to vote for the first time in Punjab.
When attention was drawn towards Punjab Congress Chief’, Capt.Amarinder Singh’s statement about the party going to opt for most of sitting MLA’s than sources quipped that it’s not necessary to retain all sitting MLA’S as win ability factor matters the most. Party is still undecided on how many seats will be allotted under women quota.
