Patiala – Even as the Punjab Government is making tall claims about bringing in a vast improvement in the education system, in the Chief Minister’s home district the scene is entirely different as a total of 356 posts of teachers of different subjects are lying vacant in more than 250 government schools. Of the total vacant posts 101 are of mathematics teachers.Besides, in the MP-adopted school at Marori village which was upgraded to high school level, no proper infrastructure and staff have been provided and the school is run in three rooms and with only three teachers. Villagers are planning to start an agitation on the issue so that the school may get proper staff and the required infrastructure as well. Kulwant Singh, a founder member of AAP in the area who belongs to the village, has been waging a war to get the things set right, said that if the department failed to provide staff and other facilities then after the summer vacation the village panchayat will not allow the school to reopen with the existing staff and infrastructure. However, he claimed that senior officials of the department have assured to bring change before the ultimatum period expired. Interestingly, after coming to power in the state, Captain Amarinder Singh-led government has announced to bring change in the education system and had committed to recruit 3,538 teachers in the department, but so far it has failed to take any action although it has completed over a year in the office. In the CM’s home district, 356 posts of the teachers are lying vacant in most of the schools and the badly affected areas are Samana, Patran, Ghanour and Rajpura.Meanwhile, as per the list released by the Education Department 101 posts of mathematics teachers, 86 of science teachers, 13 of Punjabi teachers, 26 of social studies teachers, 36 of Hindi teachers, five of English teachers, 2 of music teachers, 86 of DPE and one post of agriculture teacher are lying vacant in this district. Sources said that in many such schools there is no teacher to teach maths, English, Hindi, social studies, science and even the DPEs. The department does not seem concerned about the sports as it has failed to fill the posts of DPEs.On the other hand, it was revealed by the sources that filling of the posts of Hindi, DPE and English is under clouds as court cases are pending in different courts and till the decisions no recruitment against these subjects can be made by the government. Meanwhile, on the instructions of the Punjab Women Commission, the Education Department has decided to get installed complaint boxes in schools for the convenience of the girl students. The principals of the schools will take the necessary action on such complaints and also send a report to the commission every month. Sources said that the schools will also provide a complete knowledge to the girl students on the cyber crime as well so that they may become vigilant for their safety.
