Talwandi Sabo – Not adhering to the appeal of Akal Takht to refrain from politicising the religious occasions, all political parties have set up their pandals to hold conferences on the occasion of Baisakhi mela at Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district. With all political parties having set up their pandals to hold conferences, one can expect a usual kind of ‘mudslinging’ on Saturday from all stages that too just outside the Sikh temporal seat Takht Damdama Sahib.Interestingly, while the Shiromani Akali Dal is all charged up to take on the ruling Congress with party president Sukhbir Singh Badal paying personal attention towards the arrangements, the gatherings in Congress pandal are likely to feel low as the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is unlikely to be there to address them. It is learnt that Amarinder Singh is feeling pain in his feet, following which he has been asked to avoid the hectic schedule. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is wading through tough challenges for the party supremo Arvind Kejriwal disheartening the cadres by tendering apology to former SAD minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a court case, has not invited any national leader this time round. The state unit under the leadership of Sukhpal Singh Khaira, through the exercise, seems to have sent a message across that Punjab unit feels more comfortable if it has no interference of the national body, which some of the state leaders have already expressed in the media. It is learnt that the Akali Dal, in an attempt to take mileage, has organised a turban tying competition at Tawandi Sabo in the morning on Saturday, which directly signifies the organisation’s respect towards Sikhism. Meanwhile, the AAP has also decided to hold a blood donation camp on the occasion, to make all witness them working towards social responsibility. Notably, Amarinder government has ruled the state for more than one year now and realising the public sentiments, the SAD-BJP alliance as well as the AAP leadership is expected to leave no stone unturned for exposing the failure in the system, whereas the rulers would be making all recount their achievements.’ People are also excited to attend the Congress conference as they want to hear Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar, who is learnt to be annoyed with Amarinder Singh for his staff snatching his mobile phone while he was entering the CM’s office. In the absence of Amarinder Singh, finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal is expected to be the second key speaker after Jakhar. Having already spitted venom against his estranged uncle and political guru Parkash Singh Badal, Manpreet may again use the platform to vent his ire against Badal family. Meanwhile, realising its responsibility, the district administration has put all arrangements in place to make people visit the town, pay obeisance at Takht Sahib and return home safely after attending the political conferences. Over a lakh of pilgrims are accepted to visit Takht Damdama Sahib on Saturday, all seeking the divine blessings. The Chhavni of Nihangs at the back of the Takht Sahib premises is also expected to see full of activity on the day.
