Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): The Punjab Government has fulfilled promised to double commission to the Depot holders working under Public Distribution System from Rs 25 to Rs 50 per quintal on wheat distribution to the beneficiaries . This promise had been made by the previous Badal Government. The Food and Supply Minister Bharat Bhushan Aashu has taken initiative to fulfill the demand of 19,000 Depot Holders across the State. He clarified that the decision to enhance the commission would be implemented from April 2016.Source told that Rs 43.50 crore has been approved as enhanced commission. He also told that in future the ration will be available with the finger impression to the beneficiary from the coming June month and there will be no need of blue or smart card for this purpose. The State Government has computerized the entire data of 1.45 crore beneficiaries for all schemes under this system.According to information, 98.6 percent beneficiaries have been linked and detail have been feed into Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) machines and such machines have been stalled across the State. Under this scheme, five kilogram of flour (Atta) is provided to the each beneficiary at the rate of Rs 2 per kilogram to more than 30 lacs beneficiaries , but the pulses could not be provided due to hike of rates. Minister assured that pulses would be provided after the consultation with Finance Minister. He stated that an Inspector of the department will be designated for ten villages, who will ensure wheat distribution. Minister said that under the scheme 8.7 lacs metric tons wheat would be distributed. Ashu told that long standing demand of Depot holders to enhance the commission has been fulfilled. Deport holders had hold protest in Punjab as well as in Delhi demanding the commission to be enhance before the Parliament. The President of depot holder union, Gurjinder Singh Sidhu hopes that the Government will release their outstanding amount.
