Despite High Court orders of not opening shops that deal in sale and purchase of scooters and motorcycle at Gill road, shopkeepers have again opened shops and encroached the road by violating the norms. A few years back, High Court had ordered that whole road got encroached and traffic snarls became the common problem, so directions had been made that no shop would lay
bikes and scooter on road. In connection to this, court has given proper market space under bus
stand fly over near Model Town. After several years, shop owners have again opened the shops of automobiles at Gill road and are violating the court orders. Municipal Corporation is in deep slumber and no action has been taken so far.Few years back, one of the social activists had filed an RIT in court in this regard and action had been taken but now again land has been encroached. Baljinder Singh, chairman of scooter seller association said, “We are abiding the ruling of High Court not by opening the shops of scooter and bikes. Court has allow us to do any other business but some of the shopkeepers are violating the norms and MC is also doing nothing.” Darshan Singh, market shopkeeper said, “We came to know from reliable sources that department is hand in gloves with shopkeepers due to which they are not taking any action. We have also given complaint to MC Commissioner but so far no action has been taken”. On contacted MC official, he said on requesting anonymity that officers are busy in election duty and required action will be taken after the elections.
