Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): To employ a domestic servant, maid or driver at below salary will be difficult now as the Government had decided to make a registration, mandatory for each and every domestic workers although they work in rural of urban area. The department will take sue moto against those, who pay less than minimum fixed wages. Official source disclosed that the number of workers in the state is above 84 lacs, but the number of marginal workers is 14.46 lacs, but only 25 per cent workers are registered with Labour and Police department. Talking to Daily Post, the Minister for Labour, Balbir Singh Sidhu told that the process of registration has been initiated across the State as the funds Rs. 830 crore for the welfare of labourers is lying unutilised.What is the position of labourers registration, official figure are sufficient to revels the efforts of department. Zirakpur, which is a part of SAS Nagar Mohali, is known as city of flats in Punjab, while the numbers of societies are being constructed in another parts of this district Dera Bassi, Mohali and Lalru, where according to Census-2011, the number of workers are 3.55 lacs in the district, but total 3.57 lacs workers have been registered across the State by the Punjab Labour Welfare Board (PLWB), after the verification. Among the registered labourers, most of them are provided by the organised sector from various Agencies. While the labourers from the unorganised sector are still unregistered, whose full detail is not with Owners. Union Labour Ministry has also pulled Punjab for its inactiveness in this regards. Sources told that the motive behind the registration is to provide them benefits of Government’s welfare schemes as well as to protect them from the pay/wages discrepancy. Moreover this step will help the police to check the crime, committed by migrants and local labourers. Sources also disclosed that the labourers, who work in the house of farmers in rural area, will also be registered. The Government provides benefits through various schemes like stipend for children, ex-gratia Rs 5 lacs, Shagun Scheme Rs 31,000, Funeral Assistance Rs 20,000, Maternity benefit Rs 21,000, Rs 20,000 annum for mentally retarded children etc.
