Ludhiana, October 2: Punjabi Sahit Akademi Former President and Punjabi Poet Prof Gurbhajan Gill’s latest poetry book titled “Raavi” was released at a function organised at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, here today. Dr SP Singh, former Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the chief guest on the occasion, while Mr Gursharan Singh Narula, President, GGN Management Committee, presided over the function.While speaking on the occasion, Dr SP Singh said that it has been a proud moment for him because Prof Gurbhajan Gill has been his student and started penning poetry in the year 1971. He said that most of the Ghazals in his new book “Raavi” showcase the sorrow and truth about the partition of India in the year 1947.Eminent Punjabi Poet Mr Jaswant Zafar said that it was in the year 1985 when he first read Dr Surjit Patar’s book “Hawa Vich Likhe Harf” and Prof Gurbhajan Gill’s “Har Dhukhda Pind Mera Hai” which increased his interest in punjabi poetry.
While speaking on the occasion, prominent journalist and editor-in-chief of Babushahi.com, Mr Baljit Balli said that Prof Gill’s latest book “Raavi” includes poems and ghazals related to Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat. Prof Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT also shared his thoughts on book “Raavi”, while the stage was conducted by Dr Munish Kumar.While addressing the gathering, Prof Gurbhajan Gill thanked the audience for joining him on this auspicious day of his life. He informed that “Raavi” includes 103 ghazals/poems and is of 128 pages. He informed that essays by Bharatiya Sahit Akademi winner Dr Swarajbir and Punjabi University Patiala Senior Professor Dr Surjit Singh Bhatti, have also been included in this book. Prof Gill’s wife Mrs Jaswinder Kaur and daughter in law Prof Ravneet Kaur were also honoured on the occasion.Prominent among those present on the occasion included Municipal Councillor Mr Jagbir Singh Sokhi, SP (H) Moga Mr Pirthipal Singh Batala, Daljinder Rehal Italy, Karamjit Singh Architect, Harbaksh Singh Grewal, Jasjit Singh Natt, Gurinderjit Singh Natt, Ravinder Rangoowal, Kamaljit Singh Shankar, Surjit Singh Sandhu “Brisbane”, Ranjodh Singh, Tej Pratap Singh Sandhu, Dr Maan Singh Toor, Dr Jagwinder Jodha, Haqiqat Singh Mangat, besides several others.
