Lakshmi murder case: Family refuses to cremate body till accused arrested
Ferozepur A 24-year-old woman was killed during a clash between two groups over a property dispute in a village here on Tuesday, prompting a protest by her family, who have refused to cremate the body till all the accused are arrested. Family of the deceased Lakshmi refused to cremate her body and staged a dharna in Guruhashai keeping the her body on road on the second consecutive days. The protesters had been raising the slogans against the Sports Minister Punjab Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi and his son Heera Sodhi alleging them behind the murder. SAD and Sikh Students Federation had come in support of the affected family and a protest Dharna had been once again staged under the ledership of vardev Singh Maan halqa Incharge SAD, Avtar Singh Minna district president of SAD, Former MLA joginder Sinfgh Jindu on the second consecutive day on Friday. It is pertinent to mention that in a land dispute of two groups one young girl Lakshmi had been killed and five other men had been seriously injured during firing in village Fatehgarh Gehri in Guruharsahai constituency early in the morning of Tuesday.The family has refused to cremate the body till all the accused are arrested. The police have already nabbed three persons, including the main accused, Harpreet Singh, in connection with the incident. The police said Surjit Singh and Gurpreet Singh of the village were embroiled in a land dispute. Surjit had built a house on the land even though Gurpreet had reportedly won the case in a lower court. Gurpreet and others allegedly attacked Surjit and his family members on Tuesday morning in an attempt to take possession of the land.
