Ludhiana Doctor gets State Health Award by Haryana CM : Dr. Manoj K. Sobti, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon & Member Punjab Medical Council was given State Health Award by Honorable Chief Minister Haryana SH. Manohar Lal Khattar for his services in the field of Neurosurgery for the welfare of suffering humanity & his exemplary- contribution towards medical fraternity. He was presented DOUBLE HELICAL STATE HEALTH AWARD 2017 for Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh regions at a glittering ceremony held at Taj Hotel in Chandigarh on 6th November. Dr. Sobti started Neurosurgery way back in 1991 & made Neuro-sciences popular & possible in this region. He is the first Neurosurgeon who started Minimal Invasive Stereotactic Neurosurgery (Burrhole Surgery) in 1996 in this part of the country. He was working as Head of Neurosurgery Department at DMC&H at that time. Dr. Sobti had been President of IMA Punjab & is very active in the functioning of IMA.Dr. Sobti said that trauma management system is still in a primitive state in India with an appalling lack of pre-hospital care, inadequate provision of facilities for the transport of victims and inefficient emergency and casualty services that are unable to effectively handle traumatic brain injuries. According to a report, a vehicular accident occurs every three minutes and a trauma-related death occurs every 1.9 minutes.
The world report on road traffic injury prevention indicates that by 2020, road traffic injuries will be a major killer accounting for half a million deaths and 15 million disability adjusted life years. Concerted efforts are required for effective and sustainable prevention and management of critical injuries in India.
