MC issues challan to 11 shops for Unhygienic food. Municipal Corporation (MC) has issued challans to 11 Sweet and meat shops on Friday, for allegedly selling sweets and meat under unhygienic condition. Challans have been issued during a special drive against selling unhealthy food before festive season in city.Dr Jasvir Kaur, MC’s health officer said that they raided various sweets and meat shops and discovered that the workers didn’t take proper care of hygiene and didn’t cover their head and wear gloves. She cited an example of some shops where flies were hovering on sweets and meat.She said, “We have issued challans to Krishna sweets, Khushi Ram sweets, Mai Baap sweets among others. We asked the shop owners to maintain proper hygiene and make sure that workers must wear head covers and gloves . The eatables must be covered. We will carry out such drives in coming days too,” she said.
They destroyed unhealthy sweets and meat at some shops as it was lying uncovered, an MC official said.A Civil Lines resident, Kuljinder Singh said, “ Special drive should be carried out by the district health department as Diwali is round the corner. The sampling of food items should be conducted on regular basis to keep check on quality of food.”
