As many as 15 candidates have appeared for the interview for congress party’s mandate from ward number 60 of the Muncipal Corporation on Saturday.The list includes a family member of freedom fighter Sukhdev Thapar,who is vying for the party’s ticket on the ‘local candidate’ basis. Congress party sources said that as many as 18 candidates had applied for interview for the ticket from ward 60,but 15 had turned up at the marriage palace on Ferozpur road.According to congress party leaders those who appeared in the interview included business man Ashoka thapar (nephew of freeedom fighter Sukhdev Thapar) of Naughara Mohalla, Vasam Bansal, Sukhwinder Bhalla (business man), Kapil Joshi, Jatinder Munadi,Komal khanna,Kapil Kishor Gupta,Arun lekhi,Rakesh Puri, Sanjeev Sehgal,Satnam Ahuja, Vipan Sood ,Alka Malhotra(social worker), Anil Parti and Vinod Thamman. They added that the name of candidate was going to be announced in next few days.Ashok Thapar’s son Tribhuvan said his father had to appear for the interview as area residents forced him to work for the ward. He added being from freedom fighter’s family,they had always stood for the masses and had a vision for the people of the ward. Sources close to the family said even as Ashok had appeared for the interview, he might not be the choice of local MLA Surinder Dawar, who is believed to pushing for Anil Parti. They added that many of those interviewed had raised the issue of few candidates not residing in the ward, even as they had business in the area.
Meanwhile, senior leaders of Ludhiana congress said many factors would be taken into account for deciding the candidates.” There are many aspects being taken into account by three member committee to select candidates. Those should have worked selflessly for the party for 10 years, and their conduct will be taken into account. Also,the views of Ludhiana MP and the area MLA will be taken into consideration,after which the high command will take a call,” said Congress district president Gurpreet Gogi. He added that the names were expected to be decided by February 8.
Tribhuvan Thapar further said that if a non resident candidate has to be contested on Congress ticket from Ward 60 then MLA Surinder Dawar should recommend the name of his own son as councilor.
