Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has slapped a fine of Rs 1.94 crore to the power defaulters by checking 3273 connections in the month of September. Enforcement wing of the department is actively dissuading the theft and other illegal activities.Confirmed the information, revealed by Engineer Sudagar Singh Deputy Chief Engineer Enforcement PSPCL Ludhiana has directed the concerned enforcement wing officials to take stringent action against the violators. Under the supervision of higher officials, drives were conducted in the month of September and defaulters were being slapped with hefty fines.As many as 11144 connections were checked in whole district by different official’s teams of enforcement wing. During the checking of connections, different AP connections, MS connections and SP connections were checked. Wing has checked an ample of meters of SP and MP in whole district and 3273 connections were found under illegality.Setting a wrong precedent, many residential and commercial violators were detected in the theft and unauthorized metering. As many as 3273 connections were found in different illegal acts and slapped with hefty fines. Department has actively taken action against the defaulters though department already running in losses and these kind of drives would boost the revenue sector of the department. However crores of rupees are still pending from the defaulters which are yet to recover by the department. During this month drive, department has issued a fine of Rs 194.22 lakh and had recovered Rs 110.89 lakhs from the defaulters. So far rest of the amount has yet to be recovered by the department. On being contacted HS Dhillion, additional superintending engineer of Enforcement Wing PSPCLsaid, “We are following the directions issued by Sudagar Singh Deputy Chief Engineer and every month we usually conducted drives with the motive to caught the defaulters and department is working hard to stop theft of power”.
