Bathinda, Ropar thermal plants: Protest by Thermal plant employees continues on second day even. The employees of Thermal Plant are protesting for the decision to close all thermal plants in Punjab. Finance Minister Punjab Manpreet Badal took decision in Cabinet meeting. Ignoring the hundreds of crores of rupees spent in the recent past on their renovation, Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday finally announced the closure of the state-owned power generation units in Bathinda and Ropar with effect from January 1.Due to this decision, thermal power plant employees started protesting on the roads. Slogans being raised against Punjab Govt in Ropar and Bathinda. They Warned to withdraw decision immediately. The Cabinet, however, assured that it would be done without any job losses for the employees. The Cabinet decision was based on the report of the three-member subcommittee constituted to look into the matter, which had Cabinet ministers Manpreet Singh Badal, Rana Gurjit Singh and Charanjit Singh Channi as its members.
