Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): All is set to conduct the Panchayat Elections, which are due in July and August. Next week the department of Panchayat and rural Development will submit letter of intent to the Punjab State Election Commission (PSEC). But it may takes near about two month to complete the process of voter lists, reservation of wards and other tasks by the PSEC. Sources told that as the term of Gram Panchayats will be due in August month , Zila Parishad and Block Samiti on July 9, there are chances to appoint interim administrators. Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa told that the elections will be conducted under 50 percent reservation to women after increasing reservation from 33 per cent as it was the promise of the Congress in its manifesto.There are 13028 panchayat, 148 block salaries and 22 Zila Prishad in the state. Meetings between Minister Bajwa, CM Amrinder Singh and Punjab Congress Chief Sunil Jakhar have been held to discuss about the candidates. Sources told that the Congress was in the opinion for not contesting rural bodies’ election on party symbol. Minister told that women reservation will be included with SC/BC and general women reservation. In the previous Government, number of writ partitions had been filed against the alleged wrong delimitation of wards, but now the Government will get conducted election according to the directions of the High Court. To form new Gram panchayats, applications have been sought till August 31 and 267 new panchayats are likely to be constituted, while 15 Panchayat is likely to merge into other Panchayats, which had been constituted during the previous Government.
