Ludhiana(DP Correspondent) – Three days after the toll tax barrier at Ladowal was declared free for commuters following the orders of Permanent Lok Adalat, the toll collection was resumed on Saturday evening as High court gives relief to National High Authority of India (NHAI). The Highway authority has filed petition in Punjab and Haryana High court challenging the order of Permaent Lok Adalat. The High Court gives relief to NHAI and stayed the order of Lok Adalat. The NHAI was also allowed to collect toll tax at ladowal toll barrier. The copy of order reach at Ladowal at 5 Pm and the toll collection was started at 6 Pm.On April 17, Permanent Lok Adalat of Kapurthala barred National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for collecting toll at Ladowal Toll plaza and the toll collection was suspended from Wednesday evening. The court order read that the road does not comply with safety provisions under the Control of National Highway, Land and Traffic Act, 2000 and accidents were increasing on the road by every passing day. It is pertinent to mention here that National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has missed several deadlines to complete the road but continue to charge toll fares at Ladowal Toll barrier and others from Panipat to Jalandhar. Several over bridges, installation of lights and other work is still pending. However the toll plaza charges Rs 185 for a round trip and reportedly generates revenue of Rs 20 lakh every day.
