Nawanshahr: Recent utterances against government school teachers in video clips by AAP leaders Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Ghuggi that have gone viral have evoked strong reactions from the teaching fraternity here.
A state leader of Master Cadre Union Harminder Singh Uppal condemned the utterances and urged AAP leadership to clarify its stand on teachers. In a statement here on Friday, Uppal while referring to Mann’s observations in the video in which he accused his own father, a school teacher, of getting a fat salary without teaching his students, said it was possible that his father (Mann’s) failed to fulfill his responsibility as a teacher, but comparing him with the entire teaching community in the state and terming it as a community of work-shirkers could not be termed appropriate by any standards.
Uppal slammed Ghuggi for using threatening language against government school teachers in the video in the presence of AAP state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur. He sought apology from the AAP leaders. Meanwhile, social media is flooded with tapes and comments wherein teachers have condemned AAP leaders. On the other hand, AAP’s Punjab Dialogue head, former senior journalist Kanwar Sandhu in a video clip on YouTube has tried to diffuse the situation by saying that he held talks with Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Ghuggi on the issue and they told him that whatever they had said in their video clips was uttered in a ‘particular’ context.
