Manoranjan Kalia demands heritage city status for Jalandhar
Jalandhar – Senior BJP leader and former Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia met President of India Ram Nath Kovind in Delhi and demanded heritage city status for Jalandhar. Union Minister of State as well as BJP Punjab chief dent Ram Nath Kovind and gifted him a book- Ek Shahar Jalandhar authored by Deepak Jalandhari. The book highlighted that Jalandhar was a historic city with his rich past and historic background, the mention of which was found in the scriptures too.“Being a historic city, Jalandhar should be declared as the heritage city,” he said. The book was released by Manoranjan Kalia ahead of the assembly elections 2017 and a copy of the book was also presented to Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma. As the book carried minute details about Jalandhar’s reference in Mahabharat and scriptures, the city’s historic and cultural importance was alive till date. Among the major attractions were the historic Shri Devi Talaab Mandir, Mata Vrinda Mandir, the prisitine Shri Baba Harivalabh Sangeet Sammelan and other heritage sites.Apart from this, before partition, Jalandhar had 12 Kots, Gates, Basties and Baghs each, which were existing till date. While the Hindus used to stay in Kots, Muslims in Basties. Some of the prominent 12 Kots include – Kot Kishan Chand, Kot Pakshian, Kot Asman Khah while the 12 Gates include- Mai Heeran Gate, Valmiki Gate, Phagwara Gate, Gate Neela mahal. Similarly, 12 Basties include – Basti Nau, Basti Sheikh, Basti Danishmandan, Basti Mithu and 12 Baghs included Company Bagh, Partap Bagh, Pucca Bagh, Bagh Bahrian to name a few which were highlighted in the book.
