Punjab government has handed over the investigation of three cases, including the assassination of Mata Chand Kaur, wife of Jagjeet Singh former head of Namdhari sect, to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The other two cases are also related to Namdhari sect- murder of Namdhari follower Avtar Singh Tari in Koomkalan of Ludhiana and the tiffin bomb blast of Jalandhar.
The notification was issued by Punjab government a few days ago. The government has cited the reason that all the cases were inter-linked and the killers might be from out of Punjab.The police also suspected that same persons might be involved in the killing of Mata Chand Kaur and Avtar Singh Tari as the weapon, motorcycle used in both the crimes were the same. Both the victims were shot at from close range.
Though a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior police officials was formed, but the cops have so far been clueless about the cases.The office of Commissioner of Police Ludhiana confirmed the development that two cases including murder of Mata Chand Kaur and Avtar Singh Tari were handed over to CBI by Punjab government. The third case of attack with tiffin bomb was of Maksoodan in Jalandhar district.
Suba Balwinder Singh of Namdhari sect welcome the decision of Punjab government for handing over the case to CBI. He said that the culprits should be nabbed by the investigative agencies.Punjab Police and Namdhari sect has announced reward of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively for giving information of killers of Mata Chand Kaur.

1 Murder of Mata Chand Kaur, wife of Jagjeet Singh, former head of Namdhari sect
2 Murder case of Avtar Singh Tari, a staunch follower of Satguru Jagjit Singh (former head of Namdhari sect) who was killed at Ludhiana- Chandigarh road in the month of April in 2011.
3 Tiffin bomb blast case that happened in Maksoodan of district Jalandhar. It was alleged murder attempt of Thakur Uday Singh.
