Fatehgarh Sahib: Six students of SGPC run Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib who represented Punjab in Republic Day parade in New Delhi were honoured by the college principal Dr Jatinder Singh Sidhu on Saturday.
Dr Sidhu said the six students of the college Sahjot Kaur(M.Com), Manpreet Kaur(MA Journalism and Mass Communication), Pavneet Kaur(B.Sc), Bhavanpreet Kaur(B.Sc), Ramandeep Kaur(M.Sc(Chemesitry) and Jyoti(B.Com) and Punjabi Department teacher Prof Harmanpreet Kaur participated in the parade. He said the college students met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 24. SGPC president Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar, who is ex-officio president of the college managing committee also congratulated these students and college staff.
It may be mentioned here that the Punjab sent its tableau for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi after five years. The Punjab government showcased its folk dance “jago” at Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
“Jago” is a festive dance full of energy and celebrations. The word means to wake up and the ceremony usually happens the night before a Punjabi wedding and is a chance for friends and family to rejoice and dance together in celebration .
The department had finalised the theme to bring focus to the little known folk dances of the state.
