Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday reserved the judgment on two petitions field challenging the Single Bench order in Pre Medical Entrance Test (PMET) conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Fardikot for admission to the MBBS and the BDS course. The judgment was reserved after the arguments from both sides ended. The petitioners Ravneet Kaur and Purva Sood and others, who have appeared in PMET, have demanded merit list should be prepared on the basis of marks and not on percentile basis.
Percentile system adopted by university is not correct and the merit list should be made on the basis of the total marks scored by those who have taken the PMET argued counsel for Ravneet Kaur. Similar views were adopted by the counsels of the other petitioner.
R D Anand, counsel for the petitioner, appellant Purva Sood said that merit list for admission to MBBS/BDS was made without declaring the marks obtained by the candidate so the university has violated the integrity and sanctity of the PMET- 2016.
It is mentioned that Single Bench of the High Court had upheld the percentile system adopted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. However, the court had directed the university to display the combined, composite merit list of all the candidates who have given the examination of PMET to the admission of MBBS and the BDS courses within three days after preparing the fresh merit list. The court also asked to show that at what percentile the students stand so that transparency and openness in the system be maintained.
HC also directed the university to put composite result of both the tests, showing percentile of students on the website. However, court upheld the percentile adopted by the university keeping in view the changing circumstances.
The court had also declared four questions invalid and had asked the university to make necessary corrections by showing the relative percentile of all the candidates and revise the merit list.
