Ludhiana: The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on Saturday passed the annual budget of 1248 crores for 2017-2018. Out of the total budget, 67 percent funds were kept for the development projects while 29 percent will be spend on the salaries of staff and two percent for miscellaneous expenses.

The budget meeting was scheduled on Thursday but the budget was not passed over the issue of embezzlement in funds released by Punjab Infrastructure and Development Board (PIDB). The budget meeting was postponed to April 1.
Before the budget meeting, Municipal Commissioner Jaskiran Singh read the report of committee constituted to check the funds spend by PIDB.
After the MC house decided to recommend the action against former MC Chief Ghanshyam Thori the budget proposals were read and passed by the house.
In budget it was proposed the spend approximately ten crores for construction and repair of roads, three crores for slum areas, more than three crores for public toilets, and library .
MC hopes four crores income from advertisement tax and more income from rent and Tehbazaari wing as compared to previous years. The MC house has also passed order to continue the work for ongoing and allocated projects.
The MC will also write the government to release the pending payments which will be used for development.
