MC turn tough against water supply and sewerage Defaulters.
Patiala(Jagdeep Chopra) – The Cash-Strapped Municipal Corporation here has pulled its socks to set its house in right order and to generate its income by collecting the pending arrears in its different branches especially in Property tax, water supply, and sewerage and different recovery teams have been set up and assigned the task to make recoveries.Interestingly as the pressure of the recovery increased than a few of the consumers have tried to take the advantage by befooling the recovery teams by providing on the spot cheques of the recovery amount but when the MC put these cheques for clearing in banks then they got bounced. Finding it in a fixed position over cheque payment issue now the MC authorities have made a fresh announcement over it saying that if the recovery cheque of any of the consumers bounced then he or she has to face a strict action for this and MC can disconnect the erring consumer without giving any time.When talked to over the issue than one of the high official of the MC on the condition of the anonymity said that the number of the cheque bouncing cases is two or three but its a serious one as the defaulters are trying to befool the MC officials but we will not allow to happen in again in future so serious action has been planed in this connection. When asked about the mode of the tough action then he said that the MC will disconnect such consumer’s water and Sewerage connection to teach the consumer a lesson. It may be mentioned here that the MC has set up two special recovery teams and these teams are working two shifts as one work in the morning and second in evening. A team led by the inspector Jasdeep Singh and include Rajinder Singh and Goldi went to the Hindu dominated Jorrian Bhattian area in the royal city and disconnected over dozen defaulting connections.Meanwhile, the Highly placed sources in the MC told that so far the recovery teams have recovered over Rs one Lakh 34 thousand from the defaulters and efforts are on to enhance the ongoing recovery rate. On the other hand, the High Officials of the MC again reiterated that the campaign will continue without any type of let up as none of the defaulters has come forward unilaterally to pay off the amount of the pending arrears so far. Here it may be mentioned that the MC is facing a tough challenge as being festive season it has to release the salary and pension of its staff and pensioners before the festival of the Diwali so it has instructed staff to make the recoveries at a fast pace as well.
