Ludhiana: After leaving other corporations behind in getting the DPR for water supply project under AMRUT scheme approved the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL) is all set to become first MC in country to begin the project work.The officials would begin the laying of water pipelines very shortly.
The officials claimed that water pipes have been dispatched for city and within this week they would receive the pipes. The pipes have been dispatched from Bhuj, Gujarat and Kolkata. Special team of RITES along with MC officials had visited Gujrat and Kolkata for checking of the pipes whether these pipes fulfill the norms. Followed by the inspection the officials found the material satisfactory and now these pipes are likely to reach city.
The MCL Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori said, “We would become first MC in country where project work would start under AMRUT scheme as nowhere else the work has started as of now.” He said they were waiting for the material only followed by which they would be able to begin the ground work.
It is pertinent to mention here that under this project 46,000 households in 25 wards of the city would get water supply. The officials have proposed construction of 32 tubewells for supplying the water in localities while 28 OHSR water tanks for storage of water.
Total cost of the project is Rs 92.70 crores but in the first phase works worth Rs 70 crores would take place as construction of OSHR would take place later on. The tenders have been allocated to Tirupati Cement Products, Maverick Developers and Colonisers Private Limited, Jaipur and RK Builders, Bathinda.
