Chandigarh: In an effort to extend the benefits of special ‘Student Connect’ scheme launched by the Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to provide Passports hassle free, especially for students across the country, the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Chandigarh, has initiated roping-in big universities, colleges and other educational institutions located in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana.
Under the scheme the ministry has made procedure to obtain a Passport much easier and simpler the before. To educate, aware and facilitate the students, sufficient numbers in these institutions , the RPO, Chandigarh has also decided to hold special passport camps at these institutions and special passport ‘melas’ at the nearest Passport Sewa Kendras (PSKs). Rakesh Aggarwal, Regional Passport Officer (RPO), Chandigarh, informed that the Passport office was offering all help to enable students to make passports. Special emails have been sent to 50 educational institutions (government and private both) as of now, he claimed.
“We will also facilitate the students by allotting special time slots for walk-in processing of application without appointment at the PSKs, if required. As a special case, the facility will also be available to the faculty and staff members of the institutes,”he informed. With admission season round the corner for overseas universities, the MEA has been anticipating an increased number of applicants in the current quarter, since passport is a mandatory document for students planning to study abroad. This is just the right time for you to apply and get your passport, claims RPO.
The applicants could also go to MEA’s website (www.passportindia.gov.in ) to file application online and book appointment slots and thereafter visit the PSK to complete the application process. Several initiatives have been undertaken to ensure smooth processing of the applications and quick printing and dispatch of passports as well. The interested persons could also visit any of the PSKs under RPO, Chandigarh, till December 31, after filling ARN without taking any appointment under walk in category. The passport seekers may also apply for a re-issuance e of passport even one year before the expiry of the passport. In case passports of any of such students are expiring within next one year, it will be better if they apply for re-issue of their passport so that they have no problems in obtaining Visa etc.
For the convenience of the students staying in hostels away from their homes and both (temporary and permanent address fall under the jurisdiction of RPO, Chandigarh), the applicant students could apply at any PSK under RPO, Chandigarh. In such cases they have to indicate hostel address/the place where you are staying at present address and parent’s address as permanent address.
“For example, an applicant is studying in Bangalore but having parental address of Hissar, he may either apply at any of the PSK under RPO, Bangalore or under RPO, Chandigarh. For proof of residence of hostel/place of stay, he should provide a Bonafide Letter from authorized signatory of college on official letter head of his college,” he informed.
