Amritsar: In a strange and unprecedented orders passed by SGPC Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh has banned the media coverage in the premises of Golden Temple on June 6 when 32nd anniversary of Operation Blue Star to be observed. In a letter written to Police Commissioner and District Public Relation officer, SGPC Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh has sought the police help to keep the media away from the periphery of Golden Temple on June 6 morning when the anniversary of Operation Star to be observed.
SGPC Chief Secretary said that media always interfere in the SGPC programme, hence press coverage for electronic media as well as photo journalists wouldn’t be allowed as it may hurt the sentiments of Sikh devotees. Confirming the SGPC orders, DPRO Sherjang Singh Hundal said that Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh spoke to him telephonically after sending the copy of orders to his office. ‘Akali Dal Amritsar’ led by Simranjit Singh Mann’s general secretary Jarnail Singh Sakira condemning the orders of SGPC said it was highly unfortunate since such order were not passed even during the Operation Blue Star in June 1984.
Sakira said that police were also conducting raids since wee hours to arrest the Akali Dal Mann’s activists who have earlier announced that Jathedar Akal Takhat wouldn’t be allowed to address the Sikh community from the platform of Akal Takhat, since Jathedar appointed by the Sarbat Khalsa Dhian Singh Mand would address the community from Akal Takhat on June 6. He further said that Simranjit Singh Mann would also come to Akal Takhat on this day.
