Media Policy and double standard of Navjot Sidhu
Narinder Jagga – Few days ago when local body minister Navjot Singh Sidhu crying for the rights of Journalist in the press club at meet the press programme, it was the one side of coin. The actual and other face of minster appeared on 19 October, when he reportedly directed the Public Relation department not to invite those journalists who write or criticise against his policies, although they may be accredited. In an organised press conference, at Municipal Bhawan, few Journalists were invited for Press Conference. When some other Journalists tried to contact the concerned Public Relation Officer, attached with Sidhu, he did not even attend the call of Journalists. Interestingly, in the Congress manifesto, it is written on the page no. 116, that the Congress Government will encourage and strengthen the fourth estate of Indian Democracy, including Print and Electronic Media, fully following all canons of its free and fair play. But Sidhu can say that he was not a member of Congress then, when the manifesto was prepared, but the practise of Sidhu seems to divide the media. But the Journalists has decided to attend the Press Conference of Sidhu despite uninvited except Sidhu’s private called press conference at his private place.
