Mid-Day Meal Scheme turns into a white Elephant
Patiala(Jagdeep Chopra) – A threat of closure looming large over the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in Punjab School’s as in the absence of the necessary funds now the teachers working in the different School’s undergoing a different kind of apathy in these days as they are compelled to dole out money from their own pockets to run the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in their respective schools. The much-touted Mid-Day Meal Scheme has become a white elephant these days as the state government fails to release any kind of funds to run the scheme since last two months. Here it may be mentioned that the State Education Department has been running the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the state government-run schools to provide the meal to the students in the schools and also providing the required funds to runs the scheme as well. As the situation turns serious so the Junior Teachers Union (JTU) summoned a meeting to discuss the matter. Whereas in the meeting the Union Leaders discussed the matter at length and urged the state government as well as the Education Department to come to the rescue of these school’s as early as possible so that the scheme will run properly and without any kind of hindrance. Meanwhile, talking to the Daily Post the President of the Union, Ranjit Singh Mann and General Secretary Pushpinder Singh Harpalpur, Parmjeet Singh Patiala, Jaswinder Singh Samana, Kanwal Nain Samana, Sandeep Kumar Rajpura, Jaspal Singh Patran and Satish Vidhrohi stated that the state government has failed to provide necessary funds through the education department to run the scheme in the state schools from the last two months. They said that in the absence of the funds the staff working in these schools have contributed the money to run the scheme but it’s not easy for the school staffs to take a full load of the scheme on them so it’s the duty of the state government to release the necessary funds for it.Interestingly having an eye over the development it was found out that the financial condition of the state government has taken a grim turn as its lacking funds to run such pro-people and Children scheme’s and not providing the funds to carry on such projects. On the other hand, a resentment is also brewing among the cooks working to prepare the Mid-Day Meal in the state schools for the Students as they are agitating to get enhancement in their monthly payments. These cooks claiming that they are getting lesser payments in comparison to their counterparts in other states and have urged the state government to make a hike in their payments.
