Badal indirectly hinted that Modi is well aware of issues affecting Punjab
Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narinder Modi remained silent on Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal issue during his Punjab’s visit on Friday. The PM did not made any announcement related to SYL which Akalis were anticipating.
In Bathinda Modi mentioned Indus Water Treaty claiming that his government is committed to bring water (flowing into Pakistan) for farmers of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir.
At Anandpur Sahib, PM attended a function to mark 350th birth anniversary of 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh and paid obeisance at Gurudwara Keshgarh Sahib.
Modi claimed to have special relation with Punjab, as he belonged to the state (Gujarat) from where one of Guru Gobind Singh’s ‘panj pyars’ hailed. He also claimed to have visited Anandpur Sahib along with the then prime minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee long ago.
In his address, Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal, however, had made an indirect hint saying that Modi ji is well aware of Punjab and its problems and has given enough to the state during his two year tenure.
