8-year-old Sarnu and 6-year-old Manisha, have been separated from their remaining four siblings and mother. While their mother is in women’s jail for murder case. Strange thing is that their mother had murdered their father. Now their six children are left in a state of helplessness.
Authorities decided that Sarnu has been sent to juvenile home at Talwandi Dham, while Manisha has been sent to Nishkam Sewa Ashram at Daad village, as they have exceeded the age limit to live with their mother Anita in women’s jail. Their other four siblings are lodged in the jail with their mother.All children are suffered a lot . Their mother Anita is lodged at women’s jail for allegedly killing her husband, Mann Bahadur, 50. There is no relative to take care of her six children – Sarnu, Manisha, Komal (4), Pooja (2), Babu (1), and 45 days old Rajni.
After the jail authorities came to know that two of her children have exceeded the age limit for staying in jail with parents, which is set to six year for children living with their mothers, they did not allow Manisha and Sarnu to stay with their mother in the jail.On May 11, the body of Mann Bahadur was found from the accused shanty in Karamsar Colony. A sharp-edged weapon was used to kill him.
The Basti Jodhewal police had registered a case of murder. On May 12, the police have claimed to solve the case with arrest of his wife Anita and her paramour. The police produced the woman before the court and the court ordered to send her to women’s jail on judicial remand, following which all her six children were sent with her.Jail authorities did not given permission to both child to stay with their mother and they informed to court about their age . Police officials said, while they were shifted to children’s home, they were clueless as to why they are being separated from their mother and siblings. They were not willing to go, but the police were bound to obey rules.
Damanjit Kaur Walia, superintendent at women’s jail, said children who exceed the age limit have been handed over to relatives. In such cases, where there is no relative, the children are sent to children home with court orders.
