Bathinda: Furious mob damaged three buses of a private transport company after one of them hit a motorcycle-borne couple near water works on the outskirts of Goniana mandi on Jaitu road in Bathinda district.
The agitators also blocked the road and demanded the registration of a case against the driver and also adequate compensation to the victim couple.
Police, as learnt, took the accused driver in custody but the conductor of the bus and the staff of other two buses also managed to flee.
According to information, Mander Singh and Jaswinder Singh were riding on a motorcycle to reach Goniana from Aklia for taking some medicine. As the motorcycle reached the main Goniana road, a speeding bus (PB02CC6623) hit the two-wheeler from the rear and instead of stopping the driver accelerated it to speed away.
However, two motorcycle-borne youngsters, who were on their way to Bathinda from Aklia college managed to intercept the bus. Meanwhile, some onlookers also
reached the spot. The youngsters informed that the driver was reckless and they too had a narrow escape on the way.
Finding the condition of the injured couple serious, people rushed them to Government medical college and hospital at Faridkot.
Meanwhile, three more buses of the same company (Raj Bus) reached the spot from Amritsar. The furious mob intercepted them too. While the driver of one bus managed to speed it away that others were blocked.
Aggressive mob deflated the tyres and vandalised the buses. Some of the violent people were about to torch the vehicles but they were stopped from doing so.
Police from Goniona Mandi had reached the spot but the cops were failed to get the dharna lifted. The registration of case was also underway.
