Ludhiana: As the election process came to an halt and paramilitary forces going back to their base stations, the law and order situation in Ludhiana has taken a hit. In Meharban, some unidentified assailants barged into the house of a cable operator and pumped three bullets into his body, thus killing him on the spot. Few hours later, gangster Sukha Barewealia opened fire on his rival in broad day light.
The two incidents of murder and shootout have rocked the city. From last one month the crime rate in city dipped due to heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces.
On Thursday morning, a 40-year- old man identified as Harvinder Singh Bittu was found murdered in his house at Krishna colony in Meharban. The victim has sustained three bullet injuries including one in his head and two in chest. The Police have ruled out robbery angle behind the incident. The victim was alone at home at the time of incident.
The Police officials stated that the victim was murdered in morning and some acquaintance were behind the murder. The accused had a friendly entry in the house and immediately left the place after killing Bittu.
Few hours after the murder, firing incident was reported in Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar in Dugri. The famous gangster Sukha Barewalia accompanied by his three accomplices fired on his rival and also fired four gunshots in the air and fled from the spot.
The injured has been identified as Kirpal Kala, owner of motorcycle workshop. He was having old rivalry with gangster Sukha Barewalia. The victim suffered bullet injury and was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where his condition is stated to be critical.
The firing incident was captured in CCTV cameras in which Sukha Barewalia is seen firing from his revolver.
The gangster Sukha Barewalia is facing around two dozen cases of loot, snatching, assault and others.
