Nawanshahr: A young girl, aged between 20-22 years, is learnt to have robbed an old lady of her jewellery in her house here today. Akshay Kumar Tejpal, resident of New Teacher Colony, who works as a bank manager in Banga, told the police that as usual he left his house for bank at around 9.30 am this morning. His wife who works as a teacher in a local private school here had also left for her job earlier.
At around 11 AM, someone rang the doorbell of their house and her aged mother, Raksha Rani, 78, thinking that their maid had come to sweep the house, opened the door. But as soon as she opened the door, a young lady entered the house and threw powder of red ‘mirchis’ in her eyes and snatched her earrings and gold chain. The looter even tried to rob her of her bangles but as her mother resisted it and raised an alarm, she attacked her with a knife and fled, Tejpal told the police. The old lady suffered injuries on her face and an arm in the attack. A youth who was standing outside their house also tried to get hold of the looter but could not succeed in his efforts. The police including SHO Raj Kumar and DSP Mukhtiar Rai reached the spot and started investigations. The police have recovered the ‘dupptta’ and ‘chappals’ of the looter woman from the spot.
