Jalandhar: A largely peaceful voting was witnessed in Doaba, where Nawanshahr district recorded the highest poll percentage of 78.06 percent among all the four districts.
Doaba comprised of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Nawanshahr districts, where major focus remained on the voting trend of Ravidassia and Valmiki votes. Apart from the first time voters, the youth, men and the elderly, it was women who came out in large numbers to cast votes.
Nawanshahr recorded the highest poll percentage was recorded from Balachaur constituency, where the final turnout was recorded at 79.53 percent. Even Banga (reserve) seat also recorded 77.11 percent polling.
Jalandhar district recorded 73.16 percent of polling with Jalandhar Central and Jalandhar Cantonment seat witnessing 67 and 68 percent polling till 5 pm. Polling picked up in Jalandhar Cantonment after 4 pm, as earlier the polling percentage remained the lowest at 56 percent only.
The highest poll percentage was reported from Nakodar and Shahkot assembly seats with 77 percent polling. A stiff competition was witnessed SAD, Congress and AAP leaders in these constituencies while people came out in large numbers to cast vote throughout the day.
Even Phillaur (reserve) seat where four cornered contest took place between SAD, Congress, AAP and BSP recorded 75.5 4 percent polling. Kartarpur and Adampur recorded 74 percent polling while Jalandhar West and Jalandhar North polled 72 percent polling respectively.
In Hoshiarpur, the total poll percentage recorded was 73 percent. The highest 75 percent polling was recorded from Sham Chaurasi (reserve) constituency while the lowest was in Hoshiarpur ie 69.3 percent. Kapurthala district also recorded 74 percent polling in the region.
