The Punjab Government will set up a power plant at Ropar with a capacity of 2400 MW. This Ultra Super Critical Power Plant will be replacing Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant of Ropar. According to the information, two units of Ropar Thermal Plant will be shut and replaced with one unit of ultra super critical thermal power unit of 800 MW. According to the plan, six units of 210 MW to be shut down and three units of 800 MW will be installed for ultra-modern plants. According to government sources, the purpose of imposing the super critical power plant is to provide electricity to the consumers at the minimum cost.The estimated cost of the plant is around 2500-3000 crores, whereas the cost of power generation is likely to be up to only Rs 2 per unit.American company General Electric (GE) has offered to install a 2400 MW gas based plant in Punjab so that the power can be supplied to the consumers at the rate of Rs 4.81 per unit.
