No fund for loan waiver, but no penalisation against stubble burning
Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga) – The Punjab Government is in no position to release fund to cooperative banks as debt waiver of farmers. But it has assured the farmers that there will be no registration of case or fine for stubble burning against the farmers till the implementation of its alternate. According to the various farmers’ organizations, who participated in the convened meeting with CM, today told that the CM has assured them to releases the fund, whenever the Centre will grant loan to the Punjab Government. According to farmer leaders, the meeting was futile as CM’s utterance was as usual that his government was committed to the welfare of the farmers and would fulfil all promises made to the farmers.Meeting with farmers’ organization was pre-planned and formal letters were sent to the farmers’ organization three day ago. Those who were invited included Kissan Sangharsh Committee (formed with seven farmers’ organization), Bharti Kisan Union Lakhowal and BKU Sidhupur and Kadia group. Meeting was fixed for 45 minute for each group.After the meetings with CM, leaders of various farmers outfit told that meeting was totally futile. Only fake assurances were given to them about the debt waiver. President of BKU (Ugrahan), Joginer Singh Ugrahan told that they will be holding core committee meeting for further action against the Government on 27 October in Moga. He said that nobody will be allowed to recover the loan amount from the farmers and Union will stand by with farmers. He also said that families of those farmers should be compensating fully, who has committed suicide due to debt in the state. He told that the government wants release the debt waiver fund into four instalments that even in future. Ugrahan told that meeting was nothing to befool the farmers. He told that farmers have left with no option but to start strong agitation.
