As the tropical cyclone- Fani has hit the coastal areas of Orissa, the weather experts has clarified that the cyclone will have no impact in Punjab and surrounding areas.Head of the Department of climate change of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Prabhjot Kaur said that the people were scared due to rumors on social media but the tropical cyclone- Fani will leave no impact on Punjab.
It is just limited to the coastal areas of Orissa.Cyclone Fani, one of the strongest storms to batter the Indian subcontinent in decades, made landfall near Puri on Friday, lashing the coast with winds gusting at more than 120 miles per hour.Tens of millions of people are potentially in the cyclone’s path, and more than a million were evacuated this week from coastal areas. Large sections of coastal India and Bangladesh are threatened by storm surges, and heavy rains could cause rivers to breach.
Talking about the weather conditions in Punjab, Dr Prabhjot Kaur informed that in coming 4-5 days, the temperature will rise in the state wand touch to 42 degree Celsius. She said that the weather is favorable for harvesting and sowing of crops.Replying to a query, Dr Prabhjot kaur added that temperature in June and July will be like previous years. In last few years, the temperature in May was 40 degree and this year also the temperature is same. She also added that Monsoon is expected on time this year.
