Patiala: The Patiala Municipal Corporation has got tough against illegal dumping of construction material on roads within the city limits and has ordered levying of heavy penalties against defaulters in near future. An order to this effect has been taken by the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Parminder Singh Gill, and immediately the building branch of the MC had been instructed to follow these orders.
Gill said that this decision had been taken keeping in view the woes of the people in general as the dumping of the construction material on the roads led to many road accidents. He said people involved in construction activities preferred to put their raw material on the municipal roads, thus blocking these in violation of building bylaws. Not taking things lying down anymore, he said it had been decided to provide people relief from such activities in future.
Gill said that the order said that nobody could dump construction material on roads and everybody had to store these near their construction site. If anybody was found indulging in such activities than they would have to undergo a heavy penality the first time and the second time the MC authorities would impound such material.
The Commissioner while ordering the building branch in this connection also instructed it to provide challan books to building inspectors. Even the senior town planner (STP) of the MC was asked to coordinate with building inspectors, assistant town planners and draftsmen to make the drive a success.
